Those trams were a lot smaller than your average Podracer, which, from the right speed and angle, or turned on its side, hop those guardrails with ease. The guardrails were built back when the refinery was booming. Travel along the old tramways and through the abandoned fuel station, snaking your way to the final run: there the catwalk has deteriorated and you must jump the gap back into the arena, only to begin your second lap. Speed along at insane rates, trying desperately not to fall to certain death. At this point, it's more important to steer through these curves without blowing up than to speed through recklessly, but be quick.Īs you enter the course's last tunnel, charge your boost and let it push you across the finish line and into the next curve.įrom an abandoned-gas-refinery-turned-arena, you'll blast off the start line and into Scrapper's Run, which confronts you immediately with narrow catwalks and suspension bridges hovering precariously over the planet surface far below. Avoid it.Īs you approach the finish line, you must navigate down the twisting, turning final run before the last tunnel. And confronting other racers in this tunnel will prove deadly for one (if not both) of you. If you hug the walls, they'll bounce you back and forth like a pinball. To avoid fatal collisions, watch your opponents as they come down the slope. Stay on your toes right after the fallen pillar: the shortcut rejoins the track just past it to the right. Stay calm to navigate the curves, and stay to the left to avoid both the rock pillar in the middle of the road and the falling pillar just beyond it. If you miss the shortcut, you'll face numerous obstacles on the intended course. A Podracer with nice acceleration and good turning is best for this course.ĭon't go too fast around the first set of hairpin turns, or you may miss an important shortcut to the right. Pay special attention to where your competition is: there are numerous opportunities for paths to cross. Try to get ahead of the crowd as early as you can, and avoid unnecessary confrontations. You must negotiate many tight corners and some narrow tunnels before you can even think about boosting ahead. So check your engines constantly and keep them in good operating condition by repairing them before things get out of hand.ĭug Derby is the second of Malastare's famed trio of courses. And so will repairing that engine, because to do so, you've got to cut power to it. If an engine takes too much damage or catches fire, your racer will veer to that side. Remember, though, that repairing cuts your speed by about half and disrupts your steering briefly.
Whether other racers hit you too often, your engine catches fire, or you've been bouncing off walls left and right, repair should cure what ails you. That's why each Podracer has a built-in repair mechanism. There's no way around it: racing will damage your engines. Find another straightaway and repeat the process.
When you're about to overheat, lay off the accelerator and wait for your engines to cool to normal. For those times, every Podracer comes equipped with a speed-boost apparatus that, when engaged, adds more than 300 mph to your top speed! Take care, though: boosting taxes your engines. These racers are fast, but sometimes that's not fast enough. Tatooine's hard clay and Ando Prime's packed snow won't slow you down, but their soft dunes and fresh powder will. Thus, you must do your best to stay on the course. The repulsor lift mechanism gives you freedom from the ground while still reacting to the terrain - in other words, the best of both worlds. The following pointers will soon have you piloting circles around your competition. It takes nerves of steel, a firm grasp on the controls, and familiarity with the nuances of piloting your particular racer to manipulate your way to the Boonta Classic finish line.
